EMR Interoperability
Accenx’s EMR interoperability and EMR integration solution, RyTRAK ACM, is designed to provide hospitals and reference laboratories with an immediate capability to provide an electronic information exchange with EMR/PMIS at the physician practices and clinics. An exchange will allow electronic clinical results to be delivered to physician office EMR systems as well as being able to pickup demographics and orders directly from the EMR systems.

As more physician practices are acquiring EMR systems, there is a rapid rise in demand for real-time delivery of laboratory, radiology, and other clinical results and documentation to physician offices. Yet, many hospitals are not equipped to provide cost-effective connectivity to physician office information systems. Unfortunately, because of hospitals’ limitation to provide electronic results to physician office EMRs, some physicians send lab work to national reference labs with one of the benefits of obtaining electronic results into their physician EMR systems. As a result, hospitals are struggling to secure the physician loyalty and revenue, and other additional business opportunities that may follow.
By providing real-time electronic clinical results directly to their EMR systems, doctors will have the ability to make better healthcare decisions and improve the overall quality of care, while hospitals will remain competitive with National Labs, like Quest Diagnostics and/or LabCorp. Hospitals, such as Baystate Health, MidMichigan Health, Elliot Health, and Cleveland Clinic, have recognized the need of establishing connectivity with physician EMR systems. Accenx Technologies, Inc. has been selected by a number of healthcare systems because of their unique and comprehensive solution to integrate with the physician practices.
With RyTRAK ACM, Baystate Health is able to provide physicians who are sending their patients to the Baystate Reference Lab an easy, inexpensive, and non-intrusive way to receive clinical results directly into their EMR systems. This is all accomplished without having to purchase new software and hardware, no infracstructure changes, no new staff or training, and with scalable solution that will grow as the number of connected practices grow.
“In comparison to other products, the way RyTRAK ACM works eliminates security risks as it does not expose physician offices to the open internet. A proven solution, RyTRAK ACM will reduce medical errors, increase patient safety, and optimize the patient experience.” – Wayne LaBranche, Application Architect, Baystate Health.
Two of 600+ physician practices affiliated with Baystate, Valley Medical Associates and Hampden County Physician Associates, LLC, have partnered with Baystate Reference Lab (BRL) with the support of Accenx Technologies to implement a secure, encrypted connection between BRL and the physician offices for the purpose of transmitting electronic results directly to the appropriate physician EMR system. The new connectivities created by Accenx Technologies, Inc. have had a tremendous impact on improving the efficiency of receiving lab results from BRL. According to John Camus, Vice President of Operations at Hampden County Physician Associates, LLC, knowing that BRL had chosen Accenx as an outside vendor was very comforting because Accenx’s RyTRAK ACM is truly a value-creating solution.
“It is important to work with individuals that have the knowledge and expertise to work with all different EMR applications, and are committed to creating these interfaces with physician groups, recognizing the importance of connecting with outside healthcare facilities.” – John Camus, VP of Operations, Hampden County Physician Associates.
Accenx’s knowledge and expertise in EMR integration allows them to integrate with any physician EMR systems. RyTRAK ACM has already been integrated with A4, GE Centricity, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, SOAPWare, RenalTrack, HealthMatics, Allscripts Practice Manager and many others.
With the new implementation, no longer does the office or physician wait for paper results. Staff no longer has to separate out and deliver the paper lab results to the physician, which has also eliminated the need to file lab results back in the patient’s chart. Any annotations or callbacks to patients on the lab results can be electronically noted and viewed by clinical staff. Staff no longer has to search for this information, and can spend their time focused on patients in the office. In addition, lab results are stored within the EMR and can be viewed by the physician online at any time without requesting the patient’s chart. As the results build within the EMR, the physician will be able to graph out the results for trending or comparison.
According to Dr. Helmuth at Valley Medical Associates (VMA), the new interface has saved time, resource, and money. It has also been a tremendous impact on improving patient safety. Accenx collaborated with BRL to perform a two year backload of data, sending over every lab result of every patient affiliated with VMA, for the purpose of allowing physicians to view historical trends in datagrams, so that they can catch conditions before they can be escalated. The new interface eliminates human error, and allows for discrete data so that abnormal alert flags of values that are out of range are highlighted and shown in red. Furthermore, the interface that Accenx has provided VMA has allowed physicians easy access to the data in the format he/she wants to see it in. According to Dr. Helmuth, the new system is easy to use, and even easier to send patient lab results to other providers in the area.
“At Valley Medical Associates, we were interested in finding a comprehensive electronic record that would allow us to order and receive entries with ease and in real-time. Accenx’s solution, RyTRAK ACM, does just that. It has allowed us to achieve our goal of receiving lab results electronically, and to provide better patient care.” – Dr. Paul Helmuth, Valley Medical Associates.
MidMichigan Health, too, was seeking a solution that would enable its hospitals a way to electronically deliver clinical results to disparate and remote physician offices’ EMRs. As a way to leverage their HIS investments and extend interoperability to improve competitiveness, MidMichigan Health selected Accenx and RyTRAK ACM to provide a full service partnership, whereby Accenx implements and continuously supports the exchange of information with any physician’s EMR/PMIS systems.
“We selected Accenx and RyTRAK ACM over other vendors because the company shows great longevity; they have proven their integration knowledge and experience, and they have shown a willingness to facilitate the implementation process,” shares Linda Harms, Application and Integration Manager, MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland. “When we subscribed to RyTRAK ACM, we knew Accenx’s partnership would prove to be beneficial in assuming the implementation and support for the physician practice and coordination with the physician practice’s EMR vendor.”
RyTRAK ACM is delivered via the Software as a Service (SaaS) model which helps healthcare organizations eliminate the high cost of implementing yet another technology including high license, support and development costs; IT staff resources for training, implementation, and support of the application; network and hardware acquisition and support costs; and on-going monitoring and maintenance of the connectivity with the participating practices. Accenx’s solution alleviates the burden on IT staff resources to manage and execute the service, so they can remain focused on the unending internal priorities for the hospital. Other benefits include simple deployment, HIPPA compliant, secure encrypted information exchange, no VPN or hardware required, and a low cost alternative to traditional integration options.
