It has been announced that the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has awarded $15 million in two new contracts for work on the Nationwide Health Information Network. The contracts were awarded to systems integrator Stanley Inc. and follow a previous $6 million contract that was awarded earlier in the month.

By being awarded these new contracts, Stanley will be responsible for developing and maintaining a "tools and standards repository" for the Nationwide Health Information Network to facilitate wider use of the standards and an increased level of interoperability across the nation.

The team working on the contracts will be directed to "streamline processes and maximize the re-use of concepts and components by developing tools to automate process and information flow."

All the awards reportedly fall under the company's Chief Information Officer-Solutions and Partners 2 Innovations (CIO-SP2i) contract with the National Institutes of Health Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center (NITAAC).

Contractual work

Under the second two-year award, valued at $8 million, Stanley will enhance and manage the testing infrastructure for the Nationwide Health Information Network.

The work will include developing an infrastructure of rigorous processes and tools needed to confirm that the system conforms to specifications and can interoperate with other solutions. The tasks include issuing digital certificates, updating network directories and providing help desk support. Subcontractors for the projects are Nitor Group Ltd. and 5am Solutions Inc.

Under both NITAAC awards, the Nitor Group Ltd., 5AM Solutions, Inc. and Aegis are subcontractors on the Stanley team. Release One joins the team under the award to perform services for the tools and standards repositoy.

Stanley Inc. is an Arlington, Va.-based company, with 5000 employees, and is a government contractor specializing in information systems engineering and integration, operational support, and business process management.
